About the Artist

Kathryn Gronka is a native of Lancaster County Pennsylvania, spending the majority of her childhood in the midst of the Amish countryside. Born with a natural talent for art, she strived to learn all she could through school, correspondence courses, and college, feeding and nurturing her passion for creativity.

Kathryn's formal art education consisted of attending Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  After college, the informal education began, and commission jobs started coming in. Much of the early work was using the traditional mediums including acrylics, oil, pen-and-ink, pencil, colored pencil, and watercolor. Kathryn was also employed by Heritage Custom Kitchens in New Holland Pennsylvania to create custom artwork on kitchen cabinets. As a freelance artist, one of the largest commissioned jobs Kathryn completed was painting a restaurant in downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The owner wanted to create an environment of fantasy and exotic location. Some of the features of that accomplishment were faux painted money on the floor, a koi fish pond, and a faux balcony painted on a 30 foot wall.

Residing in Chester County Pennsylvania with her husband and 3 children, Kathryn enjoys riding and training horses with her husband, who is a dressage and hunter/jumper trainer and riding instructor.  She has been learning the fine art of dressage and aspires to show in the highest levels of the discipline. Riding and training 8 horses keeps them very busy.

With horses as her passion Kathryn now works from her studio on painting 3D model horses and custom resin models. She has been a member of the Realistic Equine Sculpture Society since 2004. Kathryn enjoys researching and developing a painted model that reflects the beauty and accuracy of the actual horse and she enjoys doing custom models for horse owners wanting a memento of their 4-hoofed companion, to commemorate them forever.
